SUMMER TASTES AND TIPPLES
A recent visit to Edinburgh's liquid deli Demijohn whetted
our appetite in more ways than one.
Each time we visit, we find more glorious tastes and tipples. There
are now more than 40 products on their list but not displayed all the time.
Our recent tasting session saw us creating salad dressings from the wonderful
stocks available.
A Selection of Anniversary Tips
All products available at Demijohn or by mailorder.
Demijohn
Uno Anni
Created by Angus to celebrate the first anniversary of the shop opening.
Places a shot of Lime Vodka in a long glass. Top up with lemonade to taste.
Add crushed ice and a slice of lime. Umbrellas optional.
Traditional balsamic
vinegar in demi johns? This is the most fabulous tasting
vinegar you are likely to come across. Well worth the year's negotiations
it took Angus to source it.
Traditional Aceta Balsamico di Modena Baked Eggs
Make a small amount of fried mushroom and onion puree. Spread a thin layer
of puree on the bottom of a ramekin. Break a raw egg gently over the mixture,
keeping the egg intact. Pour over a small amount of fresh cream. Bake in hot
oven until skin appears on the cream. Take out of oven. Drizzle some of Demijohn's
25 year old balsamic vinegar over the top and eat immediately
Busy Chef's Zabaglione
Simple but effective. Whip a healthy amount of any of Demijohn's stronger
fruit liqueurs into some creamy vanilla icecream (bramble Scotch whisky liqueur
or sloe liquer is ideal). Serve immediately.
If you don't want to cook, the Grain
Store restaurant just above Demijohn often feature the liquid
delis' products.
